John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando Video Game is Coming in March

It’s a first-person shooter cooperative video game.

Details

Carpenter wrote the story and the game’s score. It’s being developed by Saber Interactive, published by Focus Entertainment, and it’s coming (finally) 12 March 2026. It’s been delayed a few times, which is now the norm in the gaming industry.

Platforms: PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows (available on Steam).

Gameplay: First Person Shooter (FPS), Cooperative.

Modes include single player or multiplayer.

Writer Samantha Nelson over at Polygon reviewed the game in August:

“I got to play the upcoming co-op shooter with three other people for an hour, I got run over by a truck, hauled off by a hulking monster, and driven around a monster-infested map while shooting at our pursuers. We barely survived the swarms of zombies converging at our position in the final moments of the level, and the sweet victory left me eager to play more … the vibes were certainly great. The large map was filled with pits of corrosive ooze and glowing sludge tentacles that whipped out at the unwary. There were hordes of zombies perfect for incinerating with grenades and nasty spiked beasts that resembled Superman’s foe Doomsday that will grab a player character and run away with them.”

Pick a character and team up with three friends ‘cause it’s time to save the world. Experience intense FPS action as you obliterate hordes of terrifying monsters! You may not be on the best team of mercenaries, but you are… a Toxic Commando!

From Focus Entertainment:

Take control of one of the commandos, team up with your friends and send the Sludge God and its horde of things-that-should-never-be back to the underworld. Choose the class that matches your playstyle, pile into your favorite ride, and unload an array of gunfire, grenades, special abilities, and freaking katanas as you save the planet.
