The Battle of the Atlantic Memorial in London, Ontario
Located in London, Ontario, the Battle of the Atlantic Memorial, on the fork of the Thames River, will be a monument dedicated to the memory of the more than 4,000 Canadians who died in the Atlantic waters from 1939 to 1945.
The numbers are stark: 2,000 Royal Canadian Navy sailors, 1,600 Canadian merchant mariners, and 752 Canadian Air Force personnel died during the battle. They gave their lives in the war to end tyranny.
Work crews will break ground this Fall at the site for the unveiling of the new/enhanced memorial on 4 May 2025, commemorating the 80th Anniversary of the end of the battle. The site is at HMCS Prevost, the Royal Canadian Navy reserve division on the Thames River in London, Ontario.
I’m helping the committee raise funds for the construction/enhancement of the memorial dedicated to the memory of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice from 1939-1945. Over the next few months, you’ll see posts from me here and on social media about how to donate.
Here’s the current site:
And here’s what it will look like:
The 1.8 meter-tall panels will list every sailor who lost their life, along with the name of the ship.
