The Battle of the Atlantic Memorial in London, Ontario:  How to Donate

Last week, I wrote here about plans to build/enhance the Battle of the Atlantic Memorial in London, Ontario, Canada.

During the Battle of the Atlantic, from 1939-1945, more than 4,000 Canadians died in the fight to end tyranny.  They were sailors in the Royal Canadian Navy, aircrew in the Royal Canadian Air Force, and sailors in the Merchant Marines, transporting goods, arms, and personnel across the Atlantic Ocean to the United Kingdom/Europe during World War 2.  The artist’s rendering of the finished memorial is above, and it will include mention of each ship sunk, along with a list of the sailors who lost their lives.  Family members don’t have grave sites to visit, to lay wreaths to remember and honour their loved ones.  A site such as this is important not only to memorialize what our country endured and fought for, but also for the families.

LEST WE FORGET

The enhanced memorial will be located at the SW Fork of the Thames River in London, Ontario, Canada at HMCS Prevost, here:

Each panel will be 1.8 meters tall.  They will list sailors from each ship sunk in the battle.  There will also be panels devoted to the sailors in the merchant navy and to the RCAF aircrews.  These will be here, along the path leading to the circle:

The architectural plans are on the memorial’s official site, along with the artist’s renderings.

So how can we donate?  There are multiple ways:

Donate at the official website.

Buy a memorial coin for $100 at the official site.

Buy chocolate bars from the official site.

Buy “Depth Charge Lager” brewed by Railway City Brewing in St. Thomas, Ontario.  Twenty-five cents from each can goes toward the memorial.  This can be ordered from the official BOA website under “Shop Now.”

Proceeds from these products go toward the memorial:

The products above can all be purchased from the official site, here.  You can also make a donation there.

Join us in helping build/enhance the memorial, dedicated to those who gave their lives during the Battle of the Atlantic.  Crews break ground this Fall for a grand unveiling in May 2025 at the 80th Anniversary of the end of the Battle of the Atlantic. And here is a newspaper article about the efforts to build/enhance the memorial.
