It’s a Wonderful Life is Coming to the Palace Theatre in London, Ontario

This November/December, experience the magic of Christmas and the timeless classic at the historic Palace in London, Ontario.
It’s no secret that I love this theatre.

It played a pivotal role in my creative journey during the 1970s and 80s. I saw some of the greatest films on the grandest screen in London — a curved screen, the only one of its type in the region — including Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Empire Strikes Back, and Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. Others in the city talk about seeing Jaws and other “blockbusters” there.

In fact, I have such a love for this facility, that I filmed a six-part series there, trying to promote the theatre and encouraging Londoners to continue visiting for live theatre. This season, there were highly successful runs of Mamma Mia!, Urinetown: The Musical, and Deathtrap there.
And now, It’s a Wonderful Life is in the early stages of production. Each Christmas Eve, my family watches the Frank Capra and Jimmy Stewart classic film.

Over the next few months, I’ll be promoting this production and posting stories here to try and encourage people in the region to come see the show. From itsawonderfullifeplay.com, the organization which grants the licensing rights:
Adapted by Jason LeBlanc — From the film by Frank Capra. ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ is based on the story ‘The Greatest Gift’ by Philip Van Doren Stern.
And the story description:
When $8,000 goes missing in 1945, George Bailey contemplates whether his friends and family would be better off without him. Clarence, an Angel-Second Class who hasn’t yet earned his wings, is assigned as George’s Guardian Angel. With only an hour to learn everything about George before being sent to Earth, Clarence watches George’s life unfold through a series of vignettes highlighting the most important points in his life. When Clarence arrives, George refuses the angel’s help and instead wishes he had never been born. Determined to help him, Clarence temporarily grants his request, and shows George what the world would be like without him. In disbelief, George tries to return to his life – only to discover the horrifying reality of a world without him. As George tries to grasp with this new terrifying reality, he finally learns the angel’s lesson and wishes his old life back.
Here’s the Palace Theatre Arts Common’s official site. Get ready for some Christmas magic, my fellow Londoners. Come and see the show in one of the most incredible — and iconic — facilities in the region.
