Trailer Alert: Brad Pitt in Heart of the Beast

This seems like both an intense and cathartic thriller about one man’s journey dealing with PTSD, and his relationship with the dog who shared the same experiences in wartime — a loyal friend who also needs healing.

The Story

First, I love the idea. Dogs are truly our best friends. In many ways, we don’t deserve them. They are always there, by our sides, as pets and family and also to help us in so many ways. They are our eyes, our comfort, our protectors, and also help us in emergencies or in times of war. So many dogs, for instance, were first responders during 9/11 and died shortly after because of the toxic dust they breathed in. They were helping locate bodies. With law enforcement, they locate explosives, drugs, bodies, and more. They also work with healers, clinics, and hospitals. They bring comfort and safety, and they are utterly selfless while doing it.

Second, Brad Pitt is always fun to watch and it’s a timely movie because so many soldiers from the Iraq and Afghanistan theatres of war are currently experiencing trauma. I said that this film is cathartic, but it also seems heartwarming, featuring, for the most part, just a man and his German Shephard best friend.

It’s an adventure thriller about the pair, lost in the wilderness, struggling and bonding to escape their shared dilemma, and also to help each other heal.

After a harrowing plane crash, a Special Forces officer and his combat dog find themselves stranded deep in the Alaskan wilderness. Together, they are forced into a brutal fight for survival against the elements.
