John Carpenter to Participate in the New Halloween Production?

News continues to trickle in about the new Halloween film.
The Recap
If you recall, I wrote about this project here. In that post, I also provided a “timeline” of the Halloween films, just so we could all keep things straight when talking about this franchise, which may in fact be the progeny of the most successful independent film of all time (?).
The Halloween Timeline
I have colour-coded the films connected in the same series.
Halloween (1978)
Halloween II (1981)
Halloween III: Season of the Witch (1982)
Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers (1988)
Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers (1989)
Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers (1995)
Halloween H2O: 20 Years Later (1998)
Halloween: Resurrection (2002)
Halloween (2007)
Halloween II (2009)
Halloween (2018)
Halloween Kills (2021)
Halloween Ends (2022)
Untitled Halloween Film (?)
In that earlier post, I published this news:
In 2023, Miramax signed a deal with Halloween rights holder, Malek Akkad and Trancas International Films, to create a TV series based on the universe that has now spanned thirteen films. The original intent was a series and more films. That TV series has not crystalized, however, and instead (Dark Horizons) is reporting that a film is now in the early stages of development …
The John Carpenter Connection
So we know that a new film is coming from Miramax, as well as (one day) a possible TV show. But now John Carpenter has stepped forward to say that he wants to be involved.

Out promoting his new graphic novel and accompanying album, Carpenter, while on the Tape Delay Podcast, touched on the following topics:
- A dream as inspiration for his Cathedral graphic novel
- Video games Fallout 76 and Fallout New Vegas
- Basketball, including the NBA’s San Antonio Spurs and the NCAA’s Golden State Warriors
- The genre of film he actually wanted to make, but couldn’t
- Young filmmakers and their films, particularly Backrooms
- He would like to make another film, but it depends on budget
- His anthology Body Bags, and would he appear again as The Coroner?
- His thoughts on Godzilla Minus One
During the interview, he also said this about possibly participating in the new Halloween film:
“They haven’t asked me yet, but I sure would. I stick with that franchise over the years. It’s important to me, and I’d love to contribute.”
I would love to see Carpenter direct another Halloween film, although that is not really likely. More probable is that he will help produce and also score again. As more news arrives, I’ll post it here at Life After Gateway. Watch this space. In the meantime, here’s bonus video from the recent Halloween (2018). Listen to that score! A Blanket of Steel from Timothy S. Johnston and Fitzhenry & Whiteside, Ltd.
Book Cover & Jacket Copy:
AN UNSTOPPABLE THREAT!
A mysterious assassin has murdered Cliff Sim, Chief Security Officer of the underwater colony, Trieste. Cliff was a mountain of a man, highly trained, and impossible to defeat in combat. And yet …
Someone brutally beat him and left his broken body in a secret Chinese facility at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean.
And included a calling card for Truman McClusky, Mayor of Trieste.
Taunting him.
Mac has led the underwater colonies in their fight against the world’s superpowers. Climate change has devastated the surface; nations suffer famine, drought, rebellion, rising waters, and apocalyptic coastal flooding. But now, as Mac leads the underwater colonies to freedom and independence, he’s faced with the gravest threat of his life: a Russian assassin, hellbent on killing Mac and everyone he cares for. Now Mac must uncover the identity of the killer, face him in combat, and at the same time lead people in battle against the largest underwater force ever assembled. It’s Mac’s final test, and to win the war, he must use every tool at his disposal, including the most surprising and devastating underwater weapons ever invented.
If Mac fails, all hope is lost for the future of human colonization on the ocean floors.
But the assassin could be anyone …
Watch your back, Mac.
