Visiting the Battle of the Atlantic Memorial in London, Ontario
It’s quite an incredible memorial and I recommend everyone in the area to visit the Forks of the Thames to experience this.
The committee has been hard at work for years, planning and working for three phases now, to bring us the Battle of the Atlantic Memorial in London, Ontario. The grand unveiling occurred in May (news footage is further down), but I visited it today to take a few photos to share with you. I have embedded a short reel of my visit here as well:
These four panels are at the top of the stairs leading down to the memorial. They recognize the RCAF’s contribution and losses in the Battle of the Atlantic from 1939-1945.
These are the three panels dedicated to the Canadian Merchant Navy. The path leads to the circle of honour.
These stones were placed years ago, in Phase 1, to memorialize the ships lost during the Battle of the Atlantic.

This is at the gate to the memorial, leading from the trail along the North side of the Thames River.

The new memorial is solemn, beautiful, and profound. Thousands of Canadians gave their lives in the battle from 1939 – 1945. Now there is a place for nearby families to lay wreaths, visit, and to remember.
