AMT / Round2 is Re-Releasing Scale Model Kit USS Enterprise-E

This is the Star Trek version of Enterprise from Star Trek: First Contact, then seen again in Insurrection and Nemesis. It’s NCC 1701-E.

You may recall that NCC 1701-D met its demise in Star Trek: Generations. The ship was redesigned for First Contact, and it is simply beautiful. It’s sleek, powerful, and more warlike than the television version. First Contact really highlighted the ship, especially that deflector dish and the engineering/warp core area. There were so many conflicts with the Borg in so many areas of the ship, in fact, that the ship itself became a character in the movie. I have been hard at work for the last two years building AMT (originally Aluminum Model Toys) scale model Star Trek kits. It has been creatively rewarding and a ton of fun. It was a hobby I was involved in until I was a teen … then I stopped for forty years before I picked it up again. I was constrained by budget back in the early days. I could put the kit together, but it was messy and terrible, and often remained unpainted. I just didn’t have the funds for the proper tools to construct the models effectively, and I couldn’t afford all the paint.

Two years ago, I restarted the hobby and have been actively creating only Star Trek models. You can see my efforts, along with photo diaries of each one, HERE. I have also been focusing on the company AMT, now owned by Round2, because AMT was the company that originally built scale models during Star Trek: TOS’s run. They actually sold one million sets of USS Enterprise in the early days of Trek.

In the past two years, I have created USS Enterprise, the Romulan Bird-of-Prey, the Klingon D-7 Battle Cruiser, Station K-7, the Enterprise refit (from TMP), USS Reliant, and the Klingon Bird-of-Prey.

I have many scale model kits on my shelf, still waiting to be built. I tend to purchase them as soon as they are available. Now Round 2 / AMT is re-releasing a set which first came out in 1997: AMT 1405 USS Enterprise-E. This is the sixth iteration of the set; each one tends to have new box cover art, new instructions, new decals, or new parts. The scale is 1:1400.
