The Fourth Recipient of the Timothy S. Johnston Future Writer Award

The Recipient of the 2021 TSJ Future Writer Award is …

… Oliver Anderson!

On 28 August 2021, I presented the Fourth Annual TSJ Future Writer Award to Oliver Anderson, a graduate at London South Collegiate Institute in London, Ontario.  The award celebrates a writer in Grade 12 University Preparation Writers’ Craft (EWC4U1) who excels in one or more of the following genres:  Thriller, Science Fiction, Suspense, Mystery, or Horror.  Oliver’s teacher, Ms. Gracena Gray, says that Oliver’s writing is “Exceptional, creative, engaging, and insightful.”

Oliver received a cash prize, a letter, a certificate, and a prize pack including signed books and other swag.  Oliver plans to continue his post-secondary education in software design/computer programming, which I’m sure will provide inspiration for new stories! (Read more below)

Oliver’s stories are varied, ranging from space operas investigating the pressures of command in pirate-filled outer space, to cyberpunk urban terror delving into the dangers of fusing technology into the human brain. Fascinating stuff!

Congratulations, Oliver.  I hope you keep writing creatively.

The key to success is hard work and diligence.  You have already proven that you have these qualities.  I know you will press on and achieve great things in life.  Never give up!  Life always throws obstacles at you, which we have certainly experienced in the past eighteen months.  Sometimes you can’t fight a tsunami … but you can figure a way to fight on and keep achieving small goals.  Eventually you’ll reach the big one.
