Videos from John Carpenter’s Walk of Fame Ceremony

As reported here two weeks ago, legendary director John Carpenter was (finally) awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The ceremony took place this past Thursday. Here are videos of the events, including speeches by Keith David, Kurt Russell, and Greg Nicotero.
Also in the audience, and present to support Carpenter, were Dennis Dun (Big Trouble in Little China, Prince of Darkness), Adrienne Barbeau (The Fog, Escape from New York), Slash from Guns & Roses, and Dean Cundey, the famed cinematographer whom I wrote about in connection with Escape from New York. (Cundey started with Carpenter on Halloween, The Fog, and Escape from New York, and went on to work with Zemeckis and Spielberg on Back to the Future and Jurassic Park.)
First up here at Life After Gateway is Keith David, who appeared in The Thing and They Live. If you don’t recognize him, first, shame on you, and second, you’ll recognize his voice:
Next up is Kurt Russell, who starred in Carpenter’s Elvis, Escape from New York, The Thing, Big Trouble in Little China, and Escape from LA. He begins with a hilarious story about The Thing.
And here is Greg Nicotero, the f/x wizard who worked on Village of the Damned and Ghosts of Mars.
And now finally, John Carpenter’s remarkably short (and humble) acceptance speech:
Once again, I’m sending John Carpenter a huge shout-out from Life After Gateway. The star is long overdue, and, as I understand, it is fittingly at the site of the very first Academy Awards and directly across the street from Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum.
As always, I’m hoping to see new Carpenter films in the future. In recent news, we learned that Carpenter will be scoring Bong Joon-ho’s (Parasite, Mickey 17) new film, a horror set in a Seoul subway station. Carpenter also recently said that he has not retired, and he’s always open to directing more films, as long as he doesn’t have to “back into a budget.”
