Nicolas Cage to Star in Post-Apocalyptic Quest for Survival … Against a “Vicious Band of Cannibals” in Parish

This story at Deadline caught my eye and I wanted to bring it to your attention today here at Life After Gateway.

The Story

Here’s the short synopsis:

Cage will play a nuclear holocaust survivor named Parish who has managed to survive for three decades behind a fence with his highly-trained pack of dogs for protection. When a woman and infant appear at his gate and he decides to offer refuge, a battle for survival against a “vicious band of cannibals” begins.

“Parish is forced into a brutal fight to protect everything he has left.”

Here’s the info from IMDB, which is still sparse; filming is set to begin in October in Minnesota.

I can get behind this, and it’s why it caught my eye. Cage on the ragged edge, surviving in a protected bunker surrounded by hordes of enemies, is a compelling setup. Such stories usually showcase the enemy as forces of nature nearly impossible to resist. Think I Am Legend/The Omega Man, The Last Of Us, The Walking Dead, and so on. And to survive for thirty years only to succumb due to a flash of empathy brings to mind The Purge or Knock at the Cabin (based on The Cabin at the End of the World). Parish has survived for so long, likely because he had to become something that he never was — cold, heartless, a killer — and the woman and child at the gate could be either a final test or a testament to his mindset. I’m curious to find out which.

Sometimes, the only way to survive is to become that which you fight.

This film has my attention.
