Trailer Alert: Post Apocalyptic Ridley Scott Film, The Dog Stars

This movie features quite a cast, and I have to admit, after watching the trailer … I’m in.

The Story

Directed by Ridley Scott and based on the novel by Peter Heller, the film stars:

Jacob Elordi, Margaret Qualley, Allison Janney, Josh Brolin, Benedict Wong, Guy Pearce

And from the IMDB page, the story is:

In a post-apocalyptic world, a virus wipes out humanity. Survivors face roaming scavengers called Reapers. Protagonist Hig, a pilot, survived the flu but lost his wife.

The book’s jacket copy contains a bit more detail:

Hig, bereaved and traumatised after global disaster, has three things to live for – his dog Jasper, his aggressive but helpful neighbour, and his Cessna aeroplane … But, just once, he picks up a message from another pilot, and eventually the temptation to find out who else is still alive becomes irresistible. So he takes his plane over the horizon, knowing that he won’t have enough fuel to get back …

This genre is compelling. From The Walking Dead to 28 Days Later to I Am Legend and beyond, there’s always reason to watch. We root for the characters who are attempting to maintain normalcy and forge a return to what once was. However, there are always forces against them, whether they’re monsters or zombies or infected or cannibalistic humans. We always root for good to overcome evil. This looks like a classic example of the genre.

As I mentioned above, I’m in. I’ll see this in theatres for sure, and it’s why I’m featuring it today at Life After Gateway.
