Video Game News: Alien Isolation 2 Teased with Short Video

… and the location might be LV-426? Hadley’s Hope???
It’s no secret that I am a huge fan of the original game. For me, it’s the scariest game I’ve ever played, and in terms of enjoyment, it’s right up there with The Last Of Us and RDR2. It’s also one of the most immersive video games, period.
It’s that good.
In terms of Alien continuity, it takes place between Alien and Aliens, during the period where Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) was lost in space and presumed dead. Her daughter, Amanda, travels into the void searching for her mom, and what she finds is both horrifying and enlightening. In hindsight, after my own experiences as a gamer, and also after a recent full replay of Alien: Isolation, I can say with confidence that the game is a brilliant work of art.
Find my review of it here. Years ago, I wrote the following:
The game is dark and moody and genuinely creepy. It’s more in line with the first Alien movie than the second, meaning it’s more about subterfuge and hiding than blasting away at hordes of aliens. It captures the mood and horror of Scott’s original film perfectly. It holds some genuinely terrifying moments as well as amazing production and sound design. The game fits seamlessly into Alien continuity. The story is emotional and film-worthy. In fact, it’s more “Alien” than the recent films have been. I HIGHLY recommended this game and hope there are sequels coming.
And now we have our first idea of what the story will be … and it might possibly be a prequel. The teaser appears to take place on that planet where the Nostromo landed and first encountered the xenomorph: LV-426. In the timeline, the company later established a colony there, which the locals called Hadley’s Hope, whose inhabitants eventually came into contact with the wreckage …
… and the eggs.
In Aliens, the company, Weyland-Yutani, was revealed to have sent the colonists out to examine the wreckage without warning them of the danger. This is what caused the hive on LV-426 where Aliens took place. Also, if memory serves, I believe the planet’s actual name was Acheron.
Now the game developers have released a teaser for the … prequel? Note the environment and setting. It seems to be LV-426.
The rainswept terraformed surface …
The classic motion-detector sounds from Aliens …
Could this game feature Burke’s orders (from company headquarters on Earth) to investigate the alien wreckage? Might he actually appear in the game? Only time will tell. This could be a totally different location. All we really know is that the game takes place, at least in part, off-ship and on a colony planet. At the very least, it’s a very good tease.
