AMT/Round 2 is Releasing Scale Model USS Enterprise-B … and I Just Pre-Ordered it

It’s the newest Star Trek release from the company, famed for its models during the show’s original run. They sold over a million Enterprise NCC 1701 models during TOS (1966-1969) and have been producing Trek models ever since. Round 2 acquired AMT (Aluminum Model Toys) in 2012.
In fact, AMT models were used during the show’s original run! Some of the models used during f/x sequences were actually AMT model kits, such as the Enterprise visible through the viewport at Station K-7 during The Trouble With Tribbles, and also the heavily-damaged USS Constellation in The Doomsday Machine.

One million units … and during the first year of production! It’s a mind-boggling number for a show that was not an initial success, and cancelled after the second season. (NBC brought it back for Season 3 after a fan letter-writing campaign.) The model, on the other hand, was a massive hit in terms of scale models.
Here’s a Bob Justman memo, written during the show’s production; credit to AMT and Glen Swanson.

AMT’s connection to Trek is incalculable; they also paid for the building of the large shuttlecraft Galileo for the show (The Galileo Seven) in return for the rights to build and sell that scale model. (I have one in a box and ready to hit the work bench.)
TSJ and Scale Models
In case you aren’t yet aware, I make scale model kits in my spare time. I focus exclusively on Star Trek models; here is my page dedicated to this hobby. If you are interested, you can view a photo journal of any of these models, how I made them, the trials and tribulations I endured, and what I learned from each. It’s a hobby I restarted recently after a forty-year break:

My most recent purchase was the AMT USS Enterprise-E, seen in Star Trek: First Contact, Insurrection, and Nemesis. Now the company has followed up with Enterprise-B, seen in Star Trek: Generations, which featured casts from both The Next Generation and The Original Series. It was the first TNG movie, and Captain Kirk, Ensign Chekov, and Scotty appeared in the film to help viewers make the transition.
I look forward to building USS Enterprise-B. Thanks to AMT / Round 2 for re-releasing it. It was originally issued in 1995; you can view the model’s entire history here, at Scalemates. I purchased the model from Sunward Hobbies in Ontario and received free delivery.
Here’s a scene of USS Enterprise-B from Star Trek: Generations. Credit to YouTube Channel These Are The Voyages.
When I begin this model build, I will fully document it — and the painting and decal process — and will post it here at Life After Gateway. Watch this space.

A mysterious assassin has murdered Cliff Sim, Chief Security Officer of the underwater colony, Trieste. Cliff was a mountain of a man, highly trained, and impossible to defeat in combat. And yet …

And included a calling card for Truman McClusky, Mayor of Trieste.
Taunting him.
Mac has led the underwater colonies in their fight against the world’s superpowers. Climate change has devastated the surface; nations suffer famine, drought, rebellion, rising waters, and apocalyptic coastal flooding. But now, as Mac leads the underwater colonies to freedom and independence, he’s faced with the gravest threat of his life: a Russian assassin, hellbent on killing Mac and everyone he cares for. Now Mac must uncover the identity of the killer, face him in combat, and at the same time lead people in battle against the largest underwater force ever assembled. It’s Mac’s final test, and to win the war, he must use every tool at his disposal, including the most surprising and devastating underwater weapons ever invented.
