Sigourney Weaver is Talking About a New Alien Film

Interesting news from the world of Alien:

First, some rambling thoughts.

For me, the Alien universe consists of the following:

Alien
Alien: Isolation
Aliens

After that, I don’t really feel much. I thought Alien 3 was ambitious, and it was a great introduction for film buffs to the wonderful David Fincher, but killing off Newt and Hicks during the opening credits was nearly criminal, especially after what Cameron achieved in the previous film.

Alien: Resurrection started the now-common practice of introducing new versions of the xenomorph: hybrids, engineered species, new variants, etc. Even the recent Alien: Romulus did this, and it doesn’t interest me too much. Frankly, as I watched it unfold, I couldn’t believe that it was happening again.

Alien: Earth is a unique take on the universe. I’ve only seen the first two episodes; I’ve stalled on it there.

Alien: Isolation is a video game that fits perfectly within the cannon established in those first two films by Ridley Scott and James Cameron. If you haven’t experienced it, I highly recommend you give it a shot. It’s the scariest game I’ve ever played and an incredible story. I wish someone would turn it into a film.

Predator vs. Alien was … fascinating, I guess, but it twisted the Alien canon established by the earlier films, as well as the Predator canon.

Anyway, I digress. Now comes the news that Sigourney Weaver is talking about a new Alien film. Many sites are reporting this, such as Deadline. Weaver’s friend, Walter Hill, a famous writer and director in Hollywood, is working on a screenplay and Weaver is raving about the first fifty pages. There has even been a meeting with Disney. I’m not sure where this would fit in the timeline. Perhaps it would be a straight continuation of Aliens and just ignore everything that’s come after … ?

Sigourney said in an interview with People,

“I think it’s a very strong first 50 pages. I’m thinking about working with Walter to see what the rest of the story would be.  It would not be running around airshafts, it would be a very different kind of Alien. Scary, of course, the Alien does show up, inevitable. But I love what he’s done with the character. He really gets her strength and her anger and her humor, and it’s very hard to write, and surprisingly hard to write Ripley.”

Hopefully there will be more news to report on this in the near future. Watch this space!

A mysterious assassin has murdered Cliff Sim, Chief Security Officer of the underwater colony, Trieste. Cliff was a mountain of a man, highly trained, and impossible to defeat in combat. And yet …

And included a calling card for Truman McClusky, Mayor of Trieste.

Taunting him.
