Author Michael Libling Reviews THE SHADOW OF WAR
… And it’s another superb review. I couldn’t be happier with how this thriller turned out. Thanks to Mr. Libling for the review … coming from the author of Hollywood North: A Novel in Six Reels … it has left me gobsmacked.
The blurb is:
“As usual, Johnston doesn’t mess around. His opening is as audacious as it is horrifying, deftly establishing page after page of cinematic thrills and derring-do his many fans have come to expect and love. In an instant, he propels the reader forward, the pages turning as rapidly as the action he so vividly describes. Can’t wait for A BLANKET OF STEEL, the concluding novel in this ambitious series.” — Michael Libling, author of Hollywood North: A Novel in Six Reels and The Serial Killer’s Son Takes A Wife

Michael Libling on The Shadow of War:
“As usual, Johnston doesn’t mess around. His opening is as audacious as it is horrifying, establishing page after page of cinematic thrills and derring-do his many fans have come to count on. In the past, his novels have brought to mind Tom Clancy, Ian Fleming, and James A. Corey (THE EXPANSE). This time, it is Andy Weir and THE MARTIAN. Johnston does more than entertain, he illuminates, with scientific, technological, and historical research woven seamlessly throughout. Indeed, Johnston so cleverly incorporates facts, data, and developments, you barely realize there is an educational component. It all goes down so easily …
Action scenes are Johnston’s greatest strength. It’s a large part of what makes reading his work so entertaining. Time and again, he puts his characters into heart-pounding, life-or-death situations with no evident means of escape. And time and again he finds a way, without resorting to deus ex machina. And this brings me to Johnston’s other strength: The total lack of pretension.
His novels do not pretend to be anything other than what they are—thrilling, science fiction adventures that propel the reader from first page to last. As I said at the outset, his goal is to tell a good story—period! With THE SHADOW OF WAR, his eighth published novel, Timothy S. Johnston maintains both his objective and justly growing reputation.”

“Johnston presents readers with a diverse set of characters, along with a complicated world for them to navigate. The novel shines when describing the technology, as when the characters discuss the beam weapon, nicknamed ‘The Water Pick’ … Fans of high-tech SF will enjoy the concepts and worldbuilding here …” — Kirkus Reviews
“Johnston weaves an engrossing tale … it’s easy to highly recommend The Shadow of War as an outstanding and gripping sci-fi technothriller.” — Midwest Book Review
“I need to see Oceania on the big screen!” — FIVE STARS from Readers’ Favorite
“…a terrific read! Smart, thrilling, intriguingly plotted and, like all previous entries in Johnston’s ‘Rise of Oceania’ series, A-level entertainment. And that opening chapter—WOW! Page-turner is an understatement.” — Michael Libling, author of Hollywood North: A Novel in Six Reels and The Serial Killer’s Son Takes A Wife
